A sold out crowd witnessed a historic event as New England Championship Wrestling celebrated its 9th anniversary with BIRTHDAY BASH 9: RAGE IN A CAGE at the National Guard Armory in Quincy, MA, this past Saturday night, August 8th.

Ring announcer, Chris Norman introduced the entire NECW locker room who surrounded the ring. Then, NECW ownership came out to announce the appointment of the first general manager in company history in former WWE/ECW referee and former New England promoter for the original ECW, Paul Richard. Richard hyped up the fans and then announced NECW President Sheldon Goldberg, who dedicated the night’s event to all of the company’s fans. Goldberg introduced a video announcement which was shown on the tron. The fans erupted as they saw NECW’s historic announcement – the signing of a television deal with Comcast SportsNet New England, with a weekly one hour broadcast to air Fridays at 4pm EST starting January 8, 2010.

In the opening contest, “The Heat” Kris Pyro countered NECW Television Champion “Superstar” Ryan Matthews’ Codebreaker attempt to a roll-up to score the pin fall and win the NECW Television Championship. Matthews’ grandfather “The Sports Illustrated Legend” Robbie Ellis was barred from the building for this rematch.

“The Talent” TJ Richter and “The Man No One Can Slam” Mr. Munroe came to the ring for Richter’s match. Richter again challenged the crowd about his body slam challenge. A surprising contender in NECW Ring Announcer, Chris Norman, attempted the slam to the huge cheers of the Quincy faithful. Unfortunately, “Stormin’” Norman was added to the list of those who tried and failed. Norman then brought out Richter’s opponent, “The Upset Kid” Nick Westgate. Westgate lived up to his moniker by pinning Richter with a flying schoolboy pin. Post match, Mr. Munroe grabbed Westgate in a brutal front face lock, swinging him around by the neck and then tossing him like a rag doll over his head. Westgate had to leave the ring with assistance of NECW officials.

In a mixed tag team challenge, Handsome Johnny’s tandem of “Sensational” Scott Levesque and Sammi Lane faced off with Puerto Rican stars Ryan Bisbal and Ivy. All four looked great in this match, with Ivy making a huge impression in her NECW in-ring debut. As the referee was distracted, watching Bisbal and Levesque, Handsome threw Sammi Lane her new Teddy Bear “Hugs”, which she blasted Ivy with. Ivy dropped to the canvas out cold. Sammi easily scored the pin fall after this. It took Ivy a few minutes to really come back to her senses after the match.

The next match was for the World Women’s Wrestling Championship. Reigning champion “The Portuguese Princess” Ariel, with Brendan Michael Thomas defended the coveted red and gold belt against the woman she defeated for the title well over a year ago, Alexxis Nevaeh. Alexxis was able to counter the Dariel into a small package which rolled around the ring as the two tried to score the fall. In the end, Nevaeh was able to hold the pin and regain the World Women’s Wrestling Championship, becoming the first two-time champion in the title’s history. After the match, BMT attempted to super kick Alexxis in anger, but she was able to duck and instead gave her own kick to the lower region of the “Prince of Pink”.

In a triple threat match, the 2009 IRON 8 Champion, Antonio “The Promise” Thomas, faced off with “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke and “The Natural” Scott Osbourne, with his manager “Rock God” Brett Adams. Thomas was able to overcome the onslaught of this duo to pin Osbourne and win the match. After the bell, Adams stated that while Thomas might have won the battle, the war had just begun and pointed to the entranceway announcing his newest client. As “The Promise” called out whomever this new client was, Brandon Locke snuck in from behind delivering a Lockedown. Then joined by Osbourne, Locke began to assault Thomas urged on by the “Rock God”. Adams then announced henceforth that the two would be known as “Real Natural”.

Next was a special Pat’s Pit segment. Pat “The Brat” Piper called out his rival Handsome Johnny, who came out with Sammi Lane. The segment quickly broke down to a contest of “Yo Momma” jokes. (yes, Yo Momma jokes). Piper schooled Handsome Johnny, who claimed he was only bested because he wasn’t prepared. The two agreed to have a rematch, this time in a karaoke-off on September 19th, much to the dismay of Lane.

In a rematch for the NECW Tag Team Championship, the reigning champions The Crown Jewels with “Mr. Fabulous” Tony Ulysses, defended against the team of Davey Loomis and Alex Payne. This time around, Payne and Loomis showed more continuity and gelled as a team. It appeared they had the title won, when Ulysses pulled referee Vinnie Lax from the ring to break up a pin attempt. Lax berated “Mr. Fabulous” and was met by a monumental lip lock! Disgusted, Lax disqualified the Jewels, awarding the match to the challengers, but leaving The Crown Jewels as the NECW Tag Team Champions.

While the steel cage was being set up, NECW Co-Owners Matt & Kyle Storm came to talk to the fans about a new signature NECW event debuting September 19 in Quincy – the 1st Annual NECW Tag Team Classic. This 8-team, single-elimination tournament would feature the NECW Tag Team Champions The Crown Jewels, with the titles on the line throughout the tournament. Also in the event would be Canada’s 2.0, the team of Battletoad (Stupefied & Bash Bison) also from Canada, “The Epic” Mike Bennett & Guy Alexander, and TJ Richter & Mr. Munroe. 3 more teams will be announced.

In the main event for the NECW Triple Crown Championship, a Steel Cage match where pin falls, submissions, or escaping the cage could be used to win, reigning and defending champion “The Enforcer” Max Bauer faced off with top contender “The Golden Greek” Alex Arion with manager Sean Gorman. Special guest referee for the match was former NECW Triple Crown Champion and 4-time NECW Tag Team Champion, DC DIllinger. The brutal cage match featured Arion getting brutalized by Bauer, until Arion was able to find a break and hit the champion with a low blow. The match raged on with both men seemingly refusing to win the match and instead trying to end the career of their opponent. Arion delivered three top tope splashes to Bauer, but was still unable to score the pin. Bauer countered with a number of “Enforcer Bomb” Fireman’s Carry face busters, again to no avail. Sean Gorman then tried to scale the cage to hand a chain to Alex Arion to use as a weapon, but was met at the top by DC Dillinger, a man he had managed to so many titles. Dillinger seemed on the same page with Gorman, until he instead blasted him with a big right hand dropping Gorman some 12 feet to the floor on to officials and referees. Arion was then able to use the chain, knocking out Bauer. “The Golden Greek” then began to make the slow climb over the top of the cage, but as he got to the top, “The Enforcer” sprung to life and met him. The two exchanged punches 15 feet above the fans, when Bauer stopped Arion and threw him on his shoulders delivering his Enforcer Bomb from the top of the cage for the pin fall and the win, retaining his championship and ending the 12-moth feud.

New England Championship Wrestling returned to the National Guard Armory in Quincy, MA this past Saturday night, July 11 in fornt of another great crowd for RED WHITE & BRUISED.

Before the opening contest, “The Talent” TJ Richter and Mr. Munroe entered the ring for their $5000 body slam challenge. They picked a young man named “Vinny” to attempt to slam the man they claim, “no one can slam”. Vinny gave two attempts before saying that he could not do it. The audience gave him a round of applause for a good attempt anyhow. That led into the opening contest of “T he Talent” TJ Richter versus Nick Westgate. Richter was able to counter a victory roll to secure the win over Westgate. After Richter taunted his opponent after the match, Westgate hit “The Honor Roll” on Richter and left to a great ovation.

Next up, Handsome Johnny’s protégé “Sensational” Scott Levesque with Sammi Lane faced off with “The Devil’s Reject” Brandon Webb. The crowd was solidly behind Webb, but Levesque scored the submission win with a Russian leg sweep into a seated octopus hold.

“The Golden Greek” Alex Arion and Sean Gorman came to the ring to talk about Arion’s main event with Antonio “The Promise” Thomas and ongoing feud with NECW Triple Crown Champion “Enforcer” Max Bauer. Gorman stated that Arion was the most talented wrestler he had ever managed. That statement brought out former Triple Crown Champion, DC Dillinger, who hasn’t been seen in NECW for over 6 months. Dillinger had questions of his own that needing answering, and he too would be watching the main event closely.

In an international challenge match, former IWA-Puerto Rico Junior Heavyweight Champion Ryan Bispal, accompanied by Ive, faced “The Prince of Pink” Brendan Michael Thomas with World Women’s Wrestling Champion “The Portuguese Princess” Ariel. Bispal looked to have his “Flatliner” finisher locked in when Ariel jumped onto the ring apron. As Bispal threw Thomas aside, Ive swept the legs of Ariel causing her to crash face-first on the ring apron. BMT quickly jumped into a crucifix and wrapped up Bispal to get the pin fall victory..

NECW Television Champion “Superstar” Ryan Matthews accompanied by his grandfather “The Sports Illustrated Legend” Robbie Ellis defended the title against “The Heat” Kris Pyro. As action got heated and Pyro looked like he was about to score the deciding pin, the bell rang. Ref Rich Bass thought that the time had expired, but in fact Robbie Ellis had instead rung the bell. As Pyro was distracted Matthews gave him his jumping jawbreaker to retain his title. After the match, a rematch was announced for August 8^th, BIRTHDAY BASH 9.

After intermission was a live Pat’s Pit segment. As Pat “The Brat” Piper began the segment, his microphone cut out. As he looked around trying to get some assistance, Handsome Johnny appeared on the video screen. The Handsome one said that he told Piper that he could do everything better and at BIRTHDAY BASH 9, Pat Piper could name the challenge, and Johnny would best him in it. As Handsome Johnny faded from the tron, Piper gained his composure and found his microphone to be working again. He then brought out his guest the self-proclaimed “Rock God” Brett Adams. Adams and Piper traded barbs, before Adams announced that he had signed on as the manager of “The Natural” Scott Osbourne an d then had serious issues with Antonio “The Promise” Thomas, which would soon be addressed. As the segment ended, instead of Pat Piper’s music playing, Handsome Johnny’s played, again angering “The Brat”.

In a match for the NECW Tag Team Championship match, the reigning champions The Crown Jewels, with “Mr. Fabulous” Tony Ulysses, faced off with Davey Loomis and his partner the debuting New England veteran Alex Payne. Payne and Loomis clicked right from the opening bell as a team. The Crown Jewels managed to retain the championship, however, when Payne took a hard fall out of the ring and hurt his knee. Loomis hit his trademarked belly-to-belly suplex on Bad Boy Jason, but the legal man in the ring Darling Damon locked in a sleeper hold, putting Loomis out cold. After the match, Tony Ulysses placed a huge kiss on the head of Loomis before waking him up. As Loomis began to come to, the Jewels held mirrors up so he could see the giant lipstick marks on his face. Loomis flipped out and the Crown Jewels smartly retreated.

NECW Triple Crown Champion “Enforcer” Max Bauer came to the ring to address the fans on his injuries suffered at the hands of “The Golden Greek” Alex Arion. Bauer hinted at potential retirement, but then said that he was fighting at BIRTHDAY BASH 9 and hoped it would be Arion across the ring from him. He also referenced that fact that if he interfered in the main event, he would be stripped of the championship and suspended, but that as soon as the match was over, Alex Arion had better watch out.

In a special 6-woman World Women’s Wrestling feature match, Team Ariel, consisting of the WWW Champion “The Portuguese Princess” Ariel, Mistress Belmont, and Sammi Lane faces off with Team Alexxis; Alexxis Nevaeh, Taeler Hendrix, and the returning Amber. All the girls came into the match looking to impress officials, knowing that a shot at the WWW Championship was still open for BIRTHDAY BASH 9. Th roughout the match, Ariel still seemed to be feeling the effects of earlier in the night. As Team Alexxis was able to knock Belmont and Sammi Lane from the ring, Alexxis hit a huge top rope dropkick on Ariel to pin the champion.

In the main event, a battle of the past two Iron 8 Champions and for #1 Contendership, 2008 IRON 8 Champion, “The Golden Greek” Alex Arion with Sean Gorman battled the 2009 IRON 8 Champion, Antonio “The Promise” Thomas. The two went back and forth for nearly twenty minutes until the match spilled outside. As “The Promise” threw Arion back into the ring and went to climb in after him, Brett Adams returned to ringside and held the leg of Thomas getting him counted out. Thomas, enraged, realized what the “Rock God” had done and chased him out of the building. Making good on his promise, Max Bauer hobbled to the ring to attack “The Golden Greek”. Bauer leveled Arion with a big boot. Sean Gorman attempted to interject himself to no avail. As the “Enforcer” went to deck Gorman, DC Dillinger ran out to keep him from punching Gorman. Arion used that opening to again attack Bauer. The locker room cleared and began to attempt to separate them. Sheldon Goldberg then announced that in order to settle this feud once and for all, he needed to do two things. First, he needed to put a referee in there that wouldn’t be intimidated by either man… and that man was DC Dillinger. As everyone, but Dillinger looked shocked, Sheldon followed up that the match would take place inside a steel cage.

NECW returns to live action on Saturday night, August 8th at the National Guard Armory in Quincy, MA for BIRTHDAY BASH 9, the 9th anniversary of New England Championship Wrestling. Tickets for this event will be on sale later this week.

NECW President, Sheldon Goldberg will be one of honorees to be inducted in the New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, Class of 2009.

The New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame was established in January of 2008, and covers not only the New England area, but the entire East Coast as well. The event is scheduled to be held in East Providence, Rhode Island at the Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost Banquet Hall, also known as the Brightridge Club on Sunday, July 12.

Tickets are already available for this 6 (2pm-8pm) hour event for $20. The cost of the ticket will get you into the event, an Italian dinner, and a souvenir program. Tickets to this event are limited.

There will be an autograph session from 2:00pm until 4:00pm featuring Ox Baker among others and will be open to all ticket holders.

Dinner will be served from 4:00pm until 5:00pm. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.

The Induction ceremony will be hosted by New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame founder, Joe Bruen.

There will be a cash bar and you must be 21 years of age to purchase anything from the bar.

New England Championship Wrestling presented it’s 6th Annual IRON 8 Championship Tournament, Saturday night, May 30th at the National Guard Armory in Quincy, MA. A large and enthusiastic crowd witnessed what will go down as one of the greatest events in NECW history.

To begin the night, all eight tournament competitors came to the ring for opening introductions and pictures with the Championship Trophy.

In the opening first round contest, “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke countered “The Heat” Kris Pyro’s Code Red attempt with The Locke Down in 11:47 to win the match and advance to the IRON 8 Final.

In the second opening round match, Antonio “The Promise” Thomas defeated “The Natural” Scott Osbourne in 10:37. Osbourne had Thomas locked in a full nelson, but Thomas was able to use the leverage of the ring ropes to push Osbourne over and score a bridging pin fall.

The third IRON 8 contest saw rookie Davey Loomis facing off with veteran and former 2 time NECW Heavyweight Champion, Maverick Wild. Maverick was able to scramble out of Loomis’ belly-to-belly suplex and hit the rolling prawn hold to pin Loomis at 7:52.

In a special Pat’s Pit Segment, Handsome Johnny and Sammi Lane came out to confront Pat “The Brat” Piper. Handsome Johnny tried to goad Piper into letting him take over the Pat’s Pit segment July 11 at RED WHITE & BRUISED, but Piper would have nothing to do with that and kicked them out of “his ring”.

The final first round IRON 8 match up saw former WWE World Tag Team Champion, Kenny Doane face off with former NECW Heavyweight Champion, Slyck Wagner Brown. The two tore into each other, but Kenny was able to hit his top rope leg drop on Slyck for the pinfall victory at the 14:45 mark to advance to the finals.

After intermission, the legendary Harley Race was welcomed to ringside to a well-deserved standing ovation to do commentary for the second half of the event.

The mixed tag team grudge match initially looked to not be happening. “The Golden Greek” Alex Arion, Mistress Belmont and Sean Gorman showed footage on the video screen from NECW TV where Arion had hit NECW Triple Crown Champion “Enforcer” Max Bauer with a car stating Bauer was done. Bauer’s scheduled partner for the night, Alexxis Nevaeh, came to the ring intending to wrestle both Arion and Belmont alone. A few minutes into the match, Bauer did come to the ring, obviously suffering the effects of being hit by Arion’s car. Bauer and Alexxis seemed to have the match well in hand, when ref Rob Teutel turned his attention away from Arion and Gorman. As Belmont and Alexxis battled, Gorman slid Arion a chair. Arion bashed the injured leg of Bauer and placed him in a half crab submission. Bauer fought until he eventually passed out due to the pain. Alex Arion and Mistress Belmont won the mixed tag by implied submission.

After the match, Alex returned to the ring and again battered the leg of the Triple Crown Champion. He brought Bauer to the corner outside the ring and placed him in a figure four around the ring post. Arion refused to break the hold despite the intervention of officials. Suddenly, the crowd roared as Harley Race got up from the announcer’s table and grabbed a metal chair threatening to bash Arion if he didn’t break the hold. Arion realizing Race was dead serious, scrambled away allowing attendants to eventually get Max to the dressing room for medical attention.

As ring announcer Chris Norman prepared to announce the main event, the opening sounds of the new reigning NECW Television Champion, “Superstar” Ryan Matthews’ ring music hit. Matthews made his way to the ring, and after whispering in the ear of Norman, the NECW ring announcer informed the fans that Matthews was “STILL NECW Television Champion”. Matthews paraded around the ring and then out of the arena.

In the IRON 8 Championship Final, the 45-minute Iron man match took place between “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke, Antonio “The Promise” Thomas, Maverick Wild, and Kenny Doane. The four men kept a breakneck pace throughout the match proving they all truly had amazing skill and stamina. As the match progressed, the high impact style took a physical toll on all of the men. Maverick Wild received a huge laceration on his forehead, yet continued to compete despite losing a fair amount of blood. With one minute left in the match, Thomas ducked a clothesline by Locke, sending “The Real Deal” face first into the ropes and staggering back into a backslide to score the first and only fall of the match. With just seconds left, Locke hit Thomas with his Locke Down maneuver and fell on top of him. Referee, Rich Bass began to count the pin fall, but the buzzer sounded signaling that the 45 minute time limit had expired. Antonio Thomas finally lived up to his original promise and became the 6th IRON 8 Champion.

After the match, Harley Race awarded the championship trophy to Thomas, who was then congratulated by Doane. (Wild was receiving medical attention at this point) Brandon Locke looked disappointed, but finally shook the hand of Thomas and hugged him eliciting a huge cheer from the crowd, only to silence them by dropping “The Promise” on his face. Locke began an assault on the new IRON 8 Champion and then smashed and stomped the championship trophy into pieces before hitting another Locke Down on Thomas.

As Thomas later recovered and saw what had happened to the trophy, he exited the armory screaming for Locke.

On the heels of one of the greatest events in company history, NECW officials have signed a unique main event for RED, WHITE & BRUISED. Antonio “The Promise” Thomas, the 2009 IRON 8 Champion will face off against last year’s IRON 8 Winner, “The Golden Greek” Alex Arion. There is plenty of bad blood between these two, as Arion cost Thomas the Triple Crown earlier in the year by interfering in Thomas’ title match against “The Enforcer” Max Bauer. To add further to the intrigue, NECW officials have announced that this will also be a #1 contender’s match and the winner will go on to contend for the NECW Triple Crown Championship at BIRTHDAY BASH 9 on Saturday, August 8th.

Given the heinous actions of Alex Arion in trying to run down the NECW Triple Crown Champion, Max Bauer will not be wrestling on July 11th due to injuries suffered at the hands of “The Golden Greek.” Bauer will be at the event on July 11th with an announcement about his next defense of the championship.

NECW Tag Team Champions, The Crown Jewels, accompanied by “Mr. Fabulous” Tony Ulysses, were originally scheduled to take on the new team of rookie sensation, Davey Loomis and the 2 time former NECW Heavyweight Champion, Maverick Wild. However, Maverick Wild is out of action due to a back injury and his place will be taken by Florida’s J.T. Flash, a protege of WWE Hall of Famer, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka.

NECW Television Champion, “Superstar” Ryan Matthews with his Grandpa, Robbie Ellis in his corner, will defend the title against “The Heat” Kris Pyro.

In a special World Women’s Wrestling Feature Match, it will be a six woman tag team challenge as World Women’s Wrestling Champion, “The Portuguese Princess” Ariel teams with Mistress Belmont and Sammi Lane to take on the team of Alexxis Nevaeh, Taeler Hendrix and the returning Amber.

Plus, “The Talent” T.J. Richter with Mr. Munroe in his corner, takes on Nick Westgate.

“Sensational” Scott Levesque with Sammi Lane in his corner, battles “The Devil’s Reject” Brandon Webb.

In a special young lion’s challenge match, Brendan Michael Thomas with World Women’s Wrestling Champion, “The Portuguese Princess” Ariel in his corner collides with Puerto Rican sensation, Luis Brisbol, as he makes his NECW debut.

In a special tag team showcase match, two new teams do battle, as The Red Devil Fight Team (Mikhail Ivanov & Aleksander Chekov) square off against Alex Payne & Matt Magnum.

NECW returned to the National Guard Armory in Quincy, MA, Saturday night, April 18, 2026 in front of another great crowd for SPRING BREAKDOWN.

In the opening contest, Slyck Wagner Brown and Antonio “The Promise” Thomas wrestled to a 10-minute time limit draw. After the match, both were announced as gaining invitation to the 6th Annual IRON 8 Championship on Saturday, May 30th in Quincy.

Davey Loomis pinned newcomer Isys Ephex following a Belly-to-belly Suplex.

In a World Women’s Wrestling Feature Match, Alexxis Nevaeh continued her quest to get another shot at the World Women’s Wrestling Championship, defeating Mistress Belmont with Sean Gorman in her corner after a top rope dropkick.

Former 2-Time NECW Heavyweight Champion, and the longest reigning champion in company history, Maverick Wild was announced as the 5th man to gain invitation to the 6th Annual IRON 8 Championship.

Up Next, the NECW Television Championship Match was marred with controversy. Reigning champion “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke seemed en route to a routine title defense win over “Superstar” Ryan Matthews. As Locke prepared to administer his finishing move “The Locke Down”, Matthews’ grandfather, sitting as a special guest at ringside, jumped up yelling for Ryan and appeared to begin having heart trouble, falling to the floor clutching his chest. As everyone looked to check on his condition, Matthews rolled up Locke, holding the tights, to pin the champion and win the Television Championship. As Ryan Matthews was announced as the new TV Champion, his grandfather jumped to his feet and ripped off his shirt, glasses and wig. Ryan Matthews’ grandfather on his mother’s side is none other than the 70-year-old “Sports Illustrated Legend” Robbie Ellis!

As a stunned crowd looked on, NECW TV’s Joe Matterazzo returned to the ring to let Locke know that he also had earned an invitation to the 6th Annual IRON 8 Championship. Considering how he was the victim of such a stunning title loss, Locke seemed more perturbed than appreciative at the announcement.

During a special Pat’s Pit segment, Pat “The Brat” Piper expected his guests to be the new NECW Tag Team Champions, The Crown Jewels. However, only one member of the team, Darling Damon, made his way to the ring. He stated that “Mr. Fabulous” Tony Ulysses and Bad Boy Jason were already relaxing in the tropical weather in Trinidad, and as soon as his passport was cleared up, he was heading there too. In the meantime he’d take on one of the “lesser” NECW talents, mentioning Nick Westgate, Davey Loomis, and “The Heat” Kris Pyro by name. This brought out Pyro who stated he was getting ready for the biggest night of his life May 30th at the 6th Annual IRON 8 Championship and defeating a talented guy, 1/2 of the tag champions, Darling Damon, would boost his confidence in a huge way. Pat Piper confirmed both men were interested in fighting and scheduled the match to take place right in Pat’s Pit.

“The Heat” Kris Pyro pinned 1/2 of the NECW Tag Team Champions Darling Damon of the Crown Jewels after hitting a “Code Red” sunset flip.

The team of “The Epic” Mike Bennett and Guy Alexander made a successful NECW debut in Quincy by defeating the team of “The Talent” TJ Richter and “The Man No One Can Slam” Mr. Munroe. The win happened after a “Hart Attack” type clothesline.

Despite having his mouth completely busted open and bloodied, “Sensational” Scott Levesque accompanied by Handsome Johnny and Sammi Lane beat Nick Westgate by pinfall to remain undefeated in NECW competition.

The final two competitors for the 6th Annual IRON 8 Championship were announced as “The Natural” Scott Osbourne and Tomasso Ciampa. Those two round out the field of eight alongside “The Heat” Kris Pyro, former WWE World Tag Team Champion Kenny Doane (of Spirit Squad fame), Slyck Wagner Brown, Antonio “The Promise” Thomas, Maverick Wild, and “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke.

The main event for the NECW Triple Crown Championship was every bit as brutal of a rematch as the first GENESIS 8 contest between champion “The Enforcer” Max Bauer and “The Golden Greek” Alex Arion was. This time, Arion had his new manager, “The Manager of Champions” Sean Gorman in his corner. This appeared to potentially be the edge that Arion needed to unseat the champion. As Gorman attempted to give Arion a chair to use, Max stopped him and instead waffled the challenger leading to a disqualification. Referees tried to stop Bauer from attacking Arion and were thrown out of the way. A number of the members of the undercard also attempted to help with the same result. Finally, a number of NECW officials and agents were able to pull the near lifeless “Golden Greek from the ring to safety.

After having Arion attempt to end his career, leave him laying in the ring after a number of chair shots, and plots to permanently injured the Triple Crown Champion, it appeared that April 18th in Quincy was the night that Max Bauer finally snapped on his top challenger.

New England Championship Wrestling returned to live action in front of another standing room only crowd this past on Saturday night, March 21st at the National Guard Armory in Quincy, MA for MARCH BADNESS.

One major championship changed hands and numerous surprises took place.

Before the opening contest, “The Talent” TJ Richter and Mr. Munroe came to the ring. Richter accused the NECW Officials of having a conspiracy against him. Ring announcer Chris Norman then announced that those same officials had decided that if Richter won his match, he would gain an invite the 6th annual IRON 8 Championship. This appeased Richter. His opponent “The Heat” Kris Pyro showed tons of heart and upset Richter with a top rope sunset flip for the pin fall victory. After the match, NECW President Sheldon Goldberg came to the ring and announced that due to the tremendous win, it would be Pyro, not Richter, who would be invited to compete in the 6th annual IRON 8.

The next match was scheduled to be between the Asian star MAKOTO and “The Devil’s Reject” Brandon Webb. While Webb hoped to make an impact in his new persona, another man came to the ring only seconds after the match began, also hoping to make an impact. “The Natural” Scott Osbourne stated he was upset at being left off the show, especially when it is time to impress the Championship Committee to earn invitations into the IRON 8. Osbourne stated that he was entering the match one of two ways, by invite or by force. Both MAKOTO and Webb called Osbourne on, which might have been a mistake. At the ten-minute mark, Osbourne threw MAKOTO from the ring and hit a cross-arm Falcon arrow on Webb to secure the pin and the victory.

In the Pat’s Pit segment, a seemingly remorseful “Golden Greek” Alex Arion came to the ring and apologized to fans for his actions. He spoke on jealousy and how he had needed help and direction. The fans seemed sympathetic for Arion, until he announced that the help and direction he needed would come from his new manager “The Manager of Champions” Sean Gorman. Gorman came out and infuriated the fans after his 6-month absence from NECW. Gorman swore that he would be the difference that wins the NECW Triple Crown for the “Golden Greek”.

In a match up of up and coming NECW Cruiserweights, “The Upset Kid” Nick Westgate proved his nickname was accurate as he defeated “The Prince of Pink” Brendan Michael Thomas, accompanied by World Women’s Wrestling Champion “The Portuguese Princess” Ariel. Westgate took the fall and the match with an amazing double chicken-wing neck breaker maneuver that defies description.

In a match for the NECW Tag Team Championship, the reigning and defending champions Dan Freitas and Brian Nunes, collectively known as PRIDE faced off with the #1 Contenders, The Crown Jewels (Darling Damon and Bad Boy Jason) with “Mr. Fabulous” Tony Ulysses. PRIDE seemed to have the match well in hand, when Ulysses caused Freitas to fall from the top rope, allowing Jason to use a victory roll to pin Nunes for the win and the titles. The Crown Jewels are the new NECW Tag Team Champions. The match was not without controversy, as Referee J.T. Franks has been accused of possibly allowing the interference to occur leading to the title change.

In the special “Superstar” Challenge, “Superstar” Ryan Matthews fought Pat “The Brat” Piper’s hand picked opponent in former NECW Heavyweight Champion, Slyck Wagner Brown. Brown spent the better part of 10 minutes outclassing and battering the self-proclaimed “Superstar”. The match spilled to the outside of the ring, with Brown throwing Matthews over the guardrail. As Slyck charged and attempted a bodypress over the rail and into the crowd onto Matthews, “Matty Cat” ducked and Wagner hit the floor hard. Somehow, Matthews was able to sneak back into the ring just beating the referee’s ten count to score the count out win. As Matthews celebrated, Brown recovered and congratulated the match victor with an “Appreciation Bomb” for his troubles much to the crowd’s delight. Matthews had to be physically assisted from the ring.

As Handsome Johnny and Sammi Lane were announced to compete in a mixed tag team grudge match, Handsome informed the fans that as a part of his training for his run at the NECW Triple Crown, he was bowing out of the match. He had signed a new wrestler in that match, a wrestler he was taking under his wing to make a star… “Sensational” Scott Levesque. Levesque and Lane’s opponents, the new NECW Television Champion “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke and Taeler Hendrix made their way to the ring. Locke pounded on Handsome Johnny’s protégé, while also Hendrix physically dominated Sammi Lane. Taeler hit a high head kick on Lane that appeared to knock her out, when Handsome Johnny took the TV Title and began to walk from ringside with it. Locke dropped down to confront Johnny. While this was happening and taking the referee’s attention from the action, Levesque dropped a huge elbow on Taeler and then pulled Sammi Lane on top of her for the cover. The referee returned in time to count the three giving Handsome Johnny’s team the victory.

With the assistance of NECW Officials, “Superstar” Ryan Matthews made his way back to the ring showing obvious injuries from his match with Slyck Wagner Brown earlier in the evening. He demanded that Sheldon Goldberg and the NECW Championship Committee grant him a TV Title match on April 18th. As Goldberg balked at the deal, Matthews begged and said his grandfather would be there to see him wrestle for the first time. Goldberg reluctantly obliged and granted him the match.

In the main event of the evening, NECW Triple Crown Champion “The Enforcer” Max Bauer faced off with Antonio “The Promise” Thomas. The two men fought tooth and nail, with Thomas nearly upsetting the champion on a number of occasions. As Thomas scaled to the top rope to capitalize on an earlier Bauer mistake, Sean Gorman ran out and pulled “The Promise” off the turnbuckle. Thomas stepped down and stalked Gorman to the backstage area. As Bauer slowly got up, “The Golden Greek” Alex Arion came through the crown and entered the ring. Bauer turned around and was leveled by a huge chair shot to the head by Arion leading to the disqualification. Thomas ran back to the ring, leading to Arion running off. Eventually, “The Promise” helped “The Enforcer” to his feet and handed him the Triple Crown Championship and shook his hand in a sign of respect. The crowd showed their appreciation for the sportsmanship of Thomas, who only 6 months prior was one of the most hated men in the company.
