JOHNNY IDOL This coffee addict first became interested in the business while admiring the work of Jimmy Snuka and Adrian Adonis. "Poor Adrian. Now that he's dead, he still doesn't get the respect he deserves. Why do people think the babyfaces of that time looked so good? Great workers like Adrian, that's why!" Idol developed under the watchful eye of Kevin Landry in 1995 and also spent some time being trained by Paul Roma. Idol got disqualifed in his first pro match later that year in Fall River against Aaron Morrison. His highlight is living out his dream. "Every weekend I get to go out there and do what I've wanted to do since I was a little kid. I consider myself very lucky for that." Backyard wrestling gets on Johnny's nerves. "That commercial on TV says, "No wrestlers were injured while filming this video." Of course not, there are no wrestlers IN the video. I've actually wrestled on shows, worked my butt off and had kids chant "backyard wrestling" during the matches. Look guys, you are fans just like the rest of us. But if you want to wrestle, go to wrestling school and learn something first. Keep the wrestling in the ring and keep the backyard for mowing." Thoughts on NECW: "I really like
working for NECW. It is one of the few promotions that I have worked for that the
wrestlers get treated the way they are supposed to. Like professionals! That
is a HUGE problem on the indy scene today." |
