Mike Steele
The chance to perform in front of the fans is what got him interested in the business. "I wanted to evoke emotions that I was able to express through my years as a wrestling fan." His favorite memories as a fan included spending time at shows with his grandfather, "I'd go to the Springfield Civic Center with my grandfather when I was 10 and we got to sit on the floor. I was never that close to the wrestlers before." Paul Roma and Kevin Landry teamed up to train him in Agawam, MA in 1998. His first pro match had him on the losing end to Brickhouse Baker for Yankee Pro Wrestling in New Bedford, MA in August of 1998. It was also his first injury as he dislocated his shoulder in the match. Steele is grateful for the opportunity he has in the business, "Every time I step through the curtain is a highlight to me because I still can't believe I am able to do this." Steele shares a thought with many other people involved on the indy scene, "Indy promoters don't realize that they don't own the talent and can't figure out why it's called independent wrestling. Limiting their talent pool has caused many promoters to take on less talented performers because they refuse to share the INDEPENDENT wrestlers with organizations that they think are out to get them. Absolutely ridiculous." Thoughts On NECW: "NECW is a great collection of athletes and entertainers who are all extremely dedicated to what they do. From the top to the bottom everyone involved in NECW is a class act and will only help produce the best wrestling in New England." |
