"THE ALPHA MALE" JUSTIN POWERS
Loves looking back at the Ric Flair-Randy Savage match from WM 8, "It's great when you watch a match 11 years later and think "Man, what a jerk" at the heel tactics of Ric Flair. And the post match promos from Flair and Savage were priceless." Started his training in the summer of 1998 under the watchful eyes of Maverick Wild, Sonny Goodspeed, and Jeff Costa. Lost to trainer Wild in his debut match in August of that year in Derry, NH. Lists a few of his fellow NECW stars as fave opponents, "My favorite matches have been wrestling Maverick at the Headlocks For Humanity show, which is when I think people started taking me seriously. Wrestling Alex Arion in the main event in Somerville with the hottest crowd I've ever had for a match, and wrestling Brian Jury in a "Dover Death Match" in front of people we knew and went to high school with." Powers thinks some wrestlers forgot why they entered the biz, "Some guys seem to have forgotten that this is about fun, both for the fans and themselves, and get caught up in their own hype." He also is a big fan of ring psychology, "I wish guys would put more drama into their matches. It's cool and amazing to see some of the moves but they only mean something when the fans are given time to appreciate them instead of going right into the next mind blowing move." Thoughts
on NECW: "NECW has the best roster of talent in New England, period. I
think the average fan always gets his moneys worth, from seeing international stars like
Doug Williams, to home grown talent like myself. The organization is professionally
run, the future seems bright. The only thing missing is more ME; billboards,
commercials, huge posters, you name it. Do that, and the money will roll right in.
That, and maybe pony rides." |
